Voodoo Shadowbox

I've had this awesome Mini Wooden Printer's Type Tray Shadowbox from Alpha Stamps on my craft table for some time, just waiting for a me to fill it with lots of little notions. Next to the tray lay a handful of doodads, and while on hold with the USPS during the holidays, I rifled through the stuff and eventually began gluing things together while patiently waiting my turn. By the time a real-live person answered the call, I had several bottles filled with herbs and feathers, tiny jars, some rhinestones glued into a skull's eye sockets, and quite a few Tarot cards snipped from the Tiny Divination Cards collage sheet. We won't mention the wait time. :/

The printer's tray was brown to begin with, and I had painted it a darker brown, only to discover that was not the answer for what I was going for. So all of its cubbies got a paint job and the front was covered with bronze metallic paint and then dry brushed with black. That'll do.

I didn't fret over what went where or making things just so. It was more of an "I'm going to glue this right here and all will be fine, moving on" kind of project. A few images from various collage sheets, like the Little Potions one, were glued to the backs of a few cubbies, and then the bottles, candles (psst, they are mostly real candles, minus the red one on the skull which is beeswax and embroidery floss!) were added, followed by some Spring Green Lichen Mix and other natural elements. All of the roses were cut from tissue paper and glued around a wire stem.

I really enjoyed creating teensy bottles from the DIY Tiny Bottle Stoppers Mix and 12x8 Clear Glass Rectangular Beads. The Secret Spell Book Labels and Witchy Little Labels & Ephemera collage sheets came in handy for some super quick labels on many of the bottles. Label all the things!

The entire project, in a round about way, began with a 1 Inch Acrylic Raven and a Small Vase with 2 Handles. I love that part with its dusty bits!

Somewhere in there is a cool eye cut from the Halloween Pendants collage sheet which has been glued to the back of a 10mm Round Glass Cabochon, and above that is a stack of bones willingly given from a Plastic Skeleton

Ooh, tiny things are cute.

I can imagine all sorts of micro things crammed into this 6 1/4" x 4 1/4" tray, but I hope it doesn't take another call to the USPS to spark inspiration.

Forest Gnomes Pop Up Book

When I first saw these Etched Wooden Arched Fairy Doors from Alpha Stamps, I thought about using them as book covers and attaching pages inside to make a little book of fairy recipes. But then I saw all of the new gnome themed collage sheets, like the Happy New Year and Gnome Home sheets,  and immediately changed my mind. Gnomes! Yay!

The pages inside were made using a Matchbox Ticket Journal. I distressed the front and back of the ticket journal and the backs of the fairy doors with brown inks for a uniform color.

On each of the pages is a rectangle of rice paper that was also aged, and I used various stamps on the pages using the same brown ink.

Most of the pages also have a simple pop up image on them, made the same way as the ones in the Pop Up Alice in a Matchbox book.

This little guy here; he's just too cute riding on a snail from the English Fairy Garden collage sheet

Instead of painting the doors, I decided to color them with watercolor pencils, mostly because the pencils were already on the craft table. They worked out well enough!

Happy New Year to you!
